I suppose it comes down to if you tend to vote for the party or the person. In theory, if you vote Party, it shouldn't matter as much who they put up for election unless they mess up and choose someone so unpopular that people who normally vote for that Party refuse to vote, or even vote for another Party.. It's hard to say, and I do know the things the Party leader is most interested in doing will come into things later, so there is some control over policy by choosing the right Party leader.
